KARAOKE
Photo-essay by Ingvar Kenne
The Group - Issue #4

I am documenting KARAOKE. Its an ongoing project in its third year and spans several countries in Asia. Karaoke bars are casual entertainment up front and likely façades for brothels, drug dens and massage parlours with happy ending out the back. Even though they play a very important social role and are relevant to the positive makeup of the neighbourhood, they also act like places of despair, loneliness, and injustice. The images try to move within the space where the two opposite emotions meet.
