This piece is about a living, breathing house. It’s also about the family who lived in it. As a kid who grew up on the Mid North Coast, I’ve always been a bit suspicious of Sydney’s suburban west. I’ve always felt an unease as I’ve driven through these suburbs, even though I’ve come to know them so well as the place where many of my great mates had grown up. When my best friend’s family house was ready for sale it heralded the end of an era, and prompted one last visit to a place I didn’t realise was so special until the drive back to the city later that evening. This place rocked.
