Story by Nicholas Hopkins

‘The Inevitable Death of an Artist’ was originally written as exercise in creative non-fiction but has since turned into a work of complete fabrication. The story depicts the last moments of a self-concerned Australian artist before he dies of a heroin overdose on the country’s southeastern coast. It bares the thoughts and actions of a character who has resigned himself to death. The story uses descriptions of Australian landscape and iconography to evoke a particular sense of identity and place.
